Minimal Group Actions on Dendrites

Minimal group actions on dendrites appear naturally in the study of 3-dimensional hyperbolic geometry. In this paper, it is shown that if a group G acts on a nondegenerate dendrite X minimally, then X admits no G-invariant measure. In particular, G cannot be amenable.

Regularisable and Minimal Orbits for Group Actions in Infinite Dimensions

We introduce a class of regularisable infinite dimensional principal fibre bundles which includes fibre bundles arising in gauge field theories like Yang-Mills and string theory and which generalise finite dimensional Riemannian principal fibre bundles induced by an isometric action. We show that the orbits of regularisable bundles have well defined, both heat-kernel and zeta function regularis...

On the cohomology of discrete abelian group actions

Generalizing a result of Depauw, we prove that the geometric cohomology groups for a Z d action are in any dimension isomorphic to the Feldman-Moore cohomology groups rsp. the algebraic group cohomology groups. This result holds in the smooth, topological or measurable category and for general Polish groups as coeecient groups.

Combinatorial Harmonic Maps and Discrete-group Actions on Hadamard Spaces

A harmonic map between two Riemannian manifolds is defined to be a critical point of the energy functional; the energy of a smooth map is by definition the integration of the squared norm of its differential over the source manifold. By solving the heat equation associated with the energy functional, Eells and Sampson [7] proved that if two manifolds are compact and the target has nonpositive s...

On the Universal Space for Group Actions with Compact Isotropy

LetG be a locally compact topological group and EG its universal space for the family of compact subgroups. We give criteria for this space to be G-homotopy equivalent to a d-dimensional G-CW -complex, a finite G-CW -complex or a G-CW -complex of finite type. Essentially we reduce these questions to discrete groups, and to the homological algebra of the orbit category of discrete groups with re...
